Young Life of Canada is committed to the health and well-being of all participants in our programs. We are closely monitoring and responding to the global COVID-19 outbreak. We are committed to understanding and complying with all guidance and regulations provided and established by the federal and provincial health and safety authorities as we make decisions about suspending or canceling Young Life activities. More than complying with regulations, we are also seeking to follow best practices and conventional wisdom pertaining to all local activities that we sponsor.

The following directives, originally issued on March 16 have been updated and extended as of Wednesday, May 20, 2020 through May 31, 2020:

  1. Young Life business travel is cancelled or postponed
  2. All Young Life in person events are suspended or postponed
  3. All groups are to meet via web or telephone conferences

As provinces across the country work towards re-opening we will abide by their guidelines and seek to open our mission as we are able.   We hope this will include small gatherings of teens, leaders and some events. We have now given conditional approval to proceed with two fundraising events, our BC Ironman of Golf & Fraser Valley Fondo in mid-late June.

Regarding summer camp, however, we have unfortunately had to let go of our hope of hosting teens at one of our national summer camps. Both BC and Alberta are not endorsing overnight camping. We will remain agile if there is any change in policy about overnight camping and group size that would allow us to bring teens to RockRidge Canyon in August. Ontario has also issued this restriction about overnight summer camping, so unless there are substantial changes in provincial policy, this decision extends to Saranac as well. If you or your teen were signed up to come to camp this summer, please watch for an email from us about the process to refund your registration fee. If you have further questions, please contact your local area or national@younglife.ca.

As news about the crisis and guidelines from authorities can change daily, the leadership of Young Life is committed to issuing regular updates to confirm or adapt our decisions.

Sincerely,
Mike O’Leary
