Careers with Young Life

Young Life would like to hire more staff

We have a number of staff roles that may interest you.  Look these over and then contact one of our three Divisional Directors of your nearest Regional Coordinator if you are interested: Student Staff
This is a part time position for students who are also committed to Young Life leadership. This part time position can lead to a full time career with Young Life. Many students who need to support themselves while completing their studies take part time jobs. For those who are gifted in ministry, Young Life offers this type of employment so those students can continue in ministry to young people.

HMS Staff
HMS stands for Home Missionary Service. This is a full or part time position for those who are interested in serving for one to three years. While some are called to the foreign mission field, others are called to serve in the home mission field. Since Canada is in need of missionaries, these people are committed with a short term, 100% focus; staying "home" to help Canadian teenagers rather than going abroad.

Intern Staff
This is a two-year position incorporating training and education, which leads to the position of Area Director (see below). Interns make a two-year commitment and generally serve under the direction of an experienced Area Director in a Young Life area. They are directly involved in working with young people in evangelism and discipleship as well as learning how to lead and manage a Young Life area. Following the completion of the Internship, most Interns make a five-year commitment to serve young people in Young Life ministry.

Area Director Staff
This is the primary role of leadership in Young Life. The Area Director is responsible for all Young Life work in a given geographically defined area. The Area Director works directly with young people but also has a role in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers to build up the work in the area. Experienced persons may be able to start at this level and receive training as necessary. Area Directors are the 'backbone' of Young Life Staff and give great leadership to other staff, volunteer adults, committee people and student leaders. This role is one of communicating vision and mobilizing people and resources. The Young Life Area Director works in partnership with the local volunteer Area Committee in developing and carrying out the work with the young people in their community.

Associate Staff
Many times in our history we have been delighted to have people offer, as a free gift, a great deal of time to work in various roles. We always take such volunteers seriously and provide these people with support and encouragement, but no salary, to fulfill their calling. Some people, for whatever reason, have no need to financial compensation and choose to work full time or part time with us. This may be you!
